Using LMS Collaborator for student internship – UKRSIBBANK case
An internship is an essential part of every student’s education at a university. It is during the internship that students get acquainted with the working realities of their future profession and gain valuable practical experience.
How to make this experience as comfortable and qualitative as possible with the help of digital technology? We will tell you about it in our case study with UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group.
Information about UKRSIBBANK
UKRSIBBANK is one of the largest universal banks in Ukraine, operating in the market since 1990. 60% of bank shares are owned by one of the world’s largest financial groups BNP Paribas, 40% by EBRD. For three years in a row UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group has been certified by Top Employers Institute as the best employer in Ukraine and Europe. It is the only bank in Ukraine certified as the best employer. This year only six international companies operating in Ukraine received the Top Employer status.
In July 2019 UKRSIBBANK started cooperation with LMS. LMS Collaborator portal is used by UKRSIBBANK to organize online practice for students – UKRSIB praktyka online. The target audience of the portal is students of economic universities. Today more than 3000 users are registered on the e-learning portal.
The practice gained particular relevance during the quarantine, when the universities switched to distance learning. It was necessary to find an online solution that would provide students with quality training during the practice. UKRSIB praktyka online online was such a solution.
Now UKRSIB praktyka online is getting more and more popular among the universities and is available for all interested students studying in the banking and financial sphere.
Together with UKRSIBBANK we decided to tell how this project was created, its goals, realization and results.
The aim of the project UKRSIB praktyka online
- To get students interested in careers in banking and finance;
- To standardize the knowledge that students gain during internships;
- To optimize the internship procedure for students;
- To reduce the amount of time a manager–mentor spends on an internship with a student.
The components of the project
UKRSIBBANK concludes official agreements on internships with higher educational institutions of Ukraine. Each university appoints a person responsible for this process from the institution.
Olesya Ilyenko (Head of Recruitment, HR Department of UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group) is responsible for student internships in UKRSIBBANK.
The HR team of UKRSIBBANK constantly uses various innovative approaches to work with youth, such as interactive workshops and competitions, which allow them to actively cooperate with the young generation. Evaluating the interest of young people and the demand for internships, the team has long thought about creating it in an accessible to the whole virtual Internet environment.
UKRSIB praktyka online course fully includes all the knowledge students can get in the UKRSIBBANK branches. At the same time they can “practice” at any convenient time and, if they wish, return to the topic they are interested in order to study in detail all the intricacies of banking.
UKRSIB praktyka online is designed for students who:
- Studying banking or insurance, interested in finance;
- Want to study the peculiarities of the financial system: how a bank that serves more than 2 million clients in the Ukrainian market works, and learn about the expertise of an international group that is a leader in global markets and operates in more than 70 countries around the world;
- Are digital and interested in digital employers – this is again about UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group;
- Want to practice remotely, for example, on a Saturday morning on their couch wherever there is the Internet connection.
Implementation of computer-aided learning – independent preparation for internship
Registration form for new students in UKRSIB praktyka online is integrated into LMS Collaborator. Complex registration logic was implemented in a simple form thanks to the flexible API of LMS Collaborator.
In the registration form, students enter their contact information, university, major, study group and course of study. If the data are verified, the student gets access to training.
The list of institutions and their majors are updated with each new agreement between UKRSIBBANK and the university.
Training program
The training program is automated and consists of 7 courses that students take one at a time. Access to the next course is granted only after successful completion of the previous course.
Each course has a passing threshold of 70%. Therefore, in order to successfully complete the course, students need to achieve a score between 70% and 100%.
Courses at UKRSIB praktyka online include all the necessary information to familiarize students with the company’s culture, its features, benefits, and everything that sets it apart from other companies.
Courses for students consist of presentations, information brochures, video and audio information.
The LMS Collaborator allows you to update course material in real time. Each course resource can be updated at any time and replaced by another. This allows you to keep the learning content up to date and regularly improve its content.
At the end of each course students take a final test to check the level of mastering the material. After passing the program of 7 blocks, students receive a certificate of successful completion of the internship. The certificate is generated automatically by a template. It can be changed and updated only by the Administrator of the portal.
The certificate template and its design is also created and updated by the portal Administrator. In LMS Collaborator this is done easily – it is enough to make changes to the template file, which can be edited in MS Word.
The certificate entitles the students to have face-to-face sessions with a manager-mentor in any branch of UKRSIBBANK. Preliminary online training of students allows the Recruitment Department to form an optimal workload of branch managers during the full-time internship.
Project results
During the whole period of the UKRSIB project UKRSIB praktyka online involved more than 3,000 students.
During the first year of the existence of NPS UKRSIB praktyka online was 76.76%.
UKRSIB praktyka online helps to attract students to training and further work in the company, to acquaint them with its features and culture. During the internship, students can see everything from the inside, learn how the work in the bank is organized and learn the intricacies of this sphere. In turn, mentor managers don’t waste time explaining basic things, students learn everything directly on the LMS Collaborator platform.
UKRSIB praktyka online based on LMS Collaborator is about quality knowledge and rapid adaptation to changes in the company, about one language of communication between the student and the supervisor. Thanks to UKRSIB praktyka online students get the necessary knowledge for work, and the company gets qualitatively prepared staff for work.
