    Involvement, objective assessment and recognition of employees is a natural way for a company’s ambassadors to emerge. People who will protect and develop the corporate brand and lead the company to success.

    How to do it? We have a proven recipe and ready technology, which we created together with Yug-Contract.

    Information about Yug-Contract

    blankYug-Contract is one of the largest national distributors in Ukraine with multi-product portfolio, which includes more than 25 thousand different items of IT, digital, household appliances, cell phones, consumer electronics and housewares. Yug-Contract’s representative offices are located in all regions of Ukraine, which allows it to provide the same high level of customer service.

    Yug-Contract has been developing distance learning since 2007. In 2019, the company replaced the old eLearning platform with LMS Collaborator. Now there are 900 active users registered on the YCCA (Yug-Contract Corporate Academy) distance learning portal.
    Yug-Contrakt uses the LMS Collaborator portal for product training, staff adaptation, blended learning programs, knowledge testing and a number of different tasks for employee development and corporate culture building.

    Svetlana Nevechera, HR Director, and Natalia Matat, Head of the Training Department, are responsible for employee training at Yug-Contract. They gave us the idea of creating a knowledge marathon, and together with them we successfully implemented the first version of the marathon. With the emergence of learning paths, we decided to update the technology, using the mechanism of no-code programming.

    We are now presenting an already updated technology. It has not yet been implemented in Yug-Contract, so this article uses demo data from the demonstration portal.

    If you are already a client of LMS Collaborator, we will quickly implement a similar marathon for you on your training portal. How it works is briefly described below.

    We tried to describe the technology so that everything was clear and understandable. So there will be some dry instructions. 🙂

    The goal of the Marathon

    • Enhance intra-corporate communications;
    • Raise employees’ interest in professional development;
    • Improve corporate culture and corporate values;
    • Strengthen the employer brand;
    • Identify and retain valuable employees.

    What motivates employees to complete the marathon

    1. An incentive to confirm your level of knowledge and pass certification;
    2. An incentive to show yourself as an involved employee and part of the company’s team;
    3. The desire to raise your professional rating in the company among colleagues;
    4. The desire to be recognized by the company according to the objective criteria of the marathon;
    5. The incentive to get a prize, such as exemption from semi-annual certification or something physical – a gift, a trip, etc.
    6. The desire to reinforce one’s group (belonging to a group) in the company, through team building (team training) and competitive spirit between regions (departments).

    How does the marathon run

    The marathon lasts for 5 working days – Monday through Friday. Each day participants must take a test to verify their knowledge. The next day access to it is closed. Whoever does not manage to pass the test in time (during the working day) – drops out of the marathon.

    Everyone who passes the tests is given an award in the form of a badge. There are three types of badges, depending on the level of the marathon:

    1. Basic level – day 1-2, badge “Marathoner. Level 1.”

    The tests of the first and second day contain simple questions. These are basic level tests, the weight of each question is 1 point.

    blank

    2. Middle level – day 3-4, badge “Marathoner. Level 2.”

    The tests on days 3 and 4 contain difficult questions. These are intermediate level tests. Each question is graded up to 5 points.

    blank

    3. Expert level – day 5, badge “Marathoner. Level 3”.

    The test on the fifth day is the most difficult – expert level. The weight of each question is 7 points.

    The marathon process is controlled automatically using the LMS Collaborator Training Trajectories functionality. It is a No-code programming tool for automating the educational process. For this Marathon case, the trajectory run by the marathoners looks like this:

    Each day the rating of the participants is calculated by the number of points and the speed of passing the test. First the participants are ranked by their scores, then by their speed. The first ten participants are considered the leaders of the marathon.

    blank

    At the end of the marathon, the leaders receive a unique badge and prizes.

    At the same time, each day the average value of the scores by team – region, city, department, etc. – is calculated. The team with the highest average score wins prizes.

    Preparing communications and channels

    To notify employees about the start of the marathon, to prepare them for participation in the event and keep them informed of the results, information is used in corporate communication channels – Notices and News on the LMS Collaborator portal, e-mail messages, messages in Telegram or Viber, as well as posts in corporate social networks.

    Before the start of the marathon, a notice is created for all participants and their leaders on the main page of the portal. It describes the idea of the marathon and the dates of the marathon with a link to the rules. Also, all participants receive a personal invitation to their email. To notify about the beginning of preparations for the marathon, to interest employees and to encourage them to participate, News and posts in corporate social networks are used.

    blank

    During the marathon, notices-banners with the results of the day by region and leaders in the form of infographics are used. Every hour the charts are automatically updated.

    At the end of the marathon, there is a notice with the marathon results and news about the course of the marathon with a detailed description of the competition by day and the statistics of the participants.

    Marathon features

    • The marathon is convenient to pass from your phone – all tasks appear at the right moment and disappear from the list of current tasks after they are passed.
    • The test timer starts when the test starts. You can interrupt and resume testing if the test time has not yet expired.
    • Tasks are assigned automatically, and those who receive the task are notified by email and messenger.
    • Automatically detects the current result and leaders, the necessary badges are issued – an objective assessment of the result by the rules without the human factor.
    • Badges are displayed in Contacts, so each user can see what badges their colleagues have.
    • You can set up your own rules for processing results and your own parameters for passing.

    Yug-Contract about the Attestation Marathon

    blankNatalia Matat: For the Yug-Contract Training Department, this marathon had several goals. We launched it when we were upgrading our e-learning system, and with the help of the marathon we attracted new users. The competitive effect played into our hands and added positive emotions, which is atypical for testing.

    The second objective was a cross-section of knowledge about the brand and its products. This helped to identify gaps in knowledge and systematize product training. And those employees who became leaders and received gifts strengthened their positions as brand ambassadors, and this has a direct impact on sales.

    For the company as a whole, the result of the marathon was an increase in employee motivation, an actualization of the brand training plan and an increase in sales.

    It’s great that LMS Collaborator has all the features for such a useful and engaging activity, and automates the process. We plan to conduct similar marathons, I think it may be applicable not only for product training, but also for general corporate events, such as the company’s birthday.

    With the right organization and positive support of the management, such a marathon is a great way to involve employees in the process of professional training and development. This is one of the best ways to show that the company is interested in developing and objectively assessing the knowledge of employees. Such activities significantly strengthen the employer’s brand and are positively perceived by employees.
